About Us

  • Our Story

Virginia Sargeant Reynolds (1914-2014) cherished her Virginia roots. Her desire to protect a substantial parcel of land in the Historic Green Springs in Louisa County, VA not far from her childhood home, led to the establishment of the Foundation bearing her name. Virginia Reynolds, and her husband Richard S. Reynolds, Jr., a former Chairman of Reynolds Metals Company, were entwined in the business, civic and philanthropic fabric of Richmond. Their two sons, Richard S Reynolds III (Major), a former Delegate in the Virginia House of Representatives and J. Sargeant Reynolds, a former Lt. Governor of Virginia, continued the Reynolds family tradition of service and philanthropy.

  • Our Mission

Our mission is to support programs, causes and organizations within Arts, Education, Environment, Health, History and Humanity, disciplines which resonated with Virginia Reynolds during her lifetime. The Foundation prioritizes support for causes with a connection to the Commonwealth of Virginia and will selectively support broader domestic and global causes within the six focus disciplines. The Foundation also actively seeks to support causes with a connection to current and future generations of the Reynolds family which are consistent with the Foundation’s mission.

The intellect, thrift, stewardship and generosity of Virginia Reynolds provided the resources enabling this Foundation to impact the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. The Foundation is dedicated to honoring her life and the Reynolds family tradition of service and philanthropy.
