Virginia Sargeant Reynolds was a close family friend of the Brockenbrough family and, growing up, Mr. Brockenbrough knew Mrs. Reynolds as a highly intelligent and elegant Virginia lady. He was a close friend of her son, J. Sargeant Reynolds. When Sargie was elected Lieutenant Governor of Virginia at the age of 34, all of his peers knew that he had national potential. Tragically, that potential was cut short by cancer at an all too early age. After Mr. Reynolds’ death, Mrs. Reynolds and Mr. Brockenbrough became close friends and he was flattered to be one of her advisors. Mr. Brockenbrough was proud of his association with Mrs. Reynolds and her philanthropy. She loved Virginia and, particularly, the Richmond community who reciprocated that love and respect.

Mr. Brockenbrough has served the Virginia Sargeant Reynolds Foundation since its inception. Mrs. Reynolds established the Foundation by adding her beloved Green Springs property in Louisa County to prevent the property from being developed. This was important for the area as it helped to preserve the pastoral setting of the beautiful Green Springs valley.

Mr. Brockenbrough is honored to be associated with Mrs. Reynolds’ Foundation and her two grandsons in carrying out her philanthropic mission.

Mr. Brockenbrough served as a director of Tredegar Industries, Inc., a Richmond-based company which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, for over 20 years.

A dedicated community volunteer, Mr. Brockenbrough is a current board member of Markel Food Group and the Virginia Historical Society (former Chairman) and is an Honorary Lifetime Trustee of the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Foundation. He has also served on numerous other boards including the Virginia Commonwealth University Foundation, The Community Foundation of Richmond (former Chairman), St. Christopher’s School, the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls and ChildFund International. He has been awarded the Boys Club of America’s highest award, the Silver Keystone Award. In 2013, Mr. Brockenbrough was nominated by the Boys and Girls club and awarded the Lifetime Philanthropist Award during the National Day of Philanthropy.

Additionally, Mr. Brockenbrough serves as Trustee Emeritus and past vice-rector and rector of the University Of Richmond Board Of Trustees. In 1992 he received the University of Richmond Alumni Award for Distinguished Service and in 1998 the Trustees’ Distinguished Service Award. Recently he was notified that he is the second inductee to the University of Richmond School of Business Alumni Hall of Fame. In 1987 he and his wife established The Brockenbrough Family Scholarship at the University of Richmond and scholarships through the Jefferson Scholar Foundation at the University of Virginia. These scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability as well as outstanding leadership, character and personal motivation.

Mr. Brockenbrough received a B.S. in Finance from the University of Richmond. He and his late wife, Jane Bryan Brockenbrough, have two daughters, a son, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren
