J. Sargeant Reynolds Jr.


J. Sargeant Reynolds, Jr. is a founder and principal of Reynolds Development, a local commercial real estate development firm located in Richmond Virginia. Mr. Reynolds and his three cousins purchased the 90 acre Reynolds Metals headquarters site in 2001 from Alcoa after the company acquired Reynolds Metals in 2000. Reynolds Development rezoned and developed the former headquarters site into an award winning mixed use commercial development considered to be one of the premier mixed use developments in the Richmond area. The development consists of over 850,000 square feet of class A office, medical office and retail space as well as the 250 room Richmond Westin Hotel.

Mr. Reynolds is the son of the late Lt. Governor J. Sargeant Reynolds, who died at the age of 34 in 1971. Mr. Reynolds is the grandson of the late Virginia Sargeant Reynolds who proudly served with her on the Virginia Sargeant Reynolds Foundation Board since its inception. Mr. Reynolds has fond memories of the many conversations that he and his grandmother had about her desire to build a foundation that would provide the necessary resources to help provide a positive impact in the community.

Mr. Reynolds serves as a director and President of the Virginia Sargeant Reynolds Foundation and is passionate about volunteering his time and resources in the community. Mr Reynolds has been involved in the non- profit community for over 35 years and has served on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond having served as President. He is a currently a Director of the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Foundation board and is a past President. Mr. Reynolds has served on numerous other boards which include the St. Joseph’s Villa Board of Trustees, The University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences Foundation Board, The Bon Secours Healthcare Foundation, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Foundation Board and many others.

In 2011, Mr Reynolds was appointed by Governor McDonnell to a five year term to The Virginia Racing Commission. Mr. Reynolds chaired the Commission from 2014 thru 2015. In 2016, Mr. Reynolds was reappointed to a second five year term by Governor McAuliffe.

Mr. Reynolds graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA degree in 1984. Mr. Reynolds joined Sovran Bank’s Management Associate program in 1985. In 1990 Mr. Reynolds left banking to launch a career in real estate.

Mr. Reynolds is married to Margaret Young Reynolds and has 2 children, Julian Sargeant Reynolds III (Jess) and Virginia Randolph Reynolds (Randy).
